The Task Board

One of the biggest lessons I learned during my healing journey had nothing to do with a specific person, event, or circumstance.

It had to do with attention.

Sometimes we become so focused on one area of our lives that everything else begins to sit untouched.

We replay conversations. We search for answers. We wait for clarity. We become consumed by a problem, a goal, a fear, a disappointment, or a distraction. Before we realize it, one square on the board has taken over all of our attention.

What we often fail to notice is that the rest of the board is still there.

Our health is on the board.

Our creativity is on the board.

Our finances are on the board.

Our friendships are on the board.

Our dreams are on the board.

Our purpose is on the board.

While we are staring at one square, the others quietly wait.

Healing is not always about solving the thing that captured our attention.

Sometimes healing is about stepping back and remembering that our lives are bigger than the problem we are trying to solve.

The moment I began redirecting my energy toward the rest of the board, things began to grow again.

The garden did not bloom because all of my problems disappeared.

The garden bloomed because I finally started watering more than one corner of it.
